what's that ex bathurst ae92 running under the hood? it would be interesting to see what they did to her. its an interesting paint job on her as well :) do you have any pic's of the engine bay?

hey that bathurst one is mine. Its got a 4agze from a ae101 in it now.
Even though its my daily I cant help modding it so i got the original harness in it and put heaps of interior goodies in it to give it that real race car feel. Its a great car!!!

The yellow/white corolla seca was previously the red caltex one but underwent a new paint job and new drivers. but yer it would of had a 1st generation 3sge motor and thus making it a 2.0l im sure only light work would of been done... as the fx-gt hatchs were winning in the class and they were still running the stanadrd 4age 1.6l motor.

The Tom's UK FX-GT hatches were only 800kg and making 150kws. Would have been aweseome to drive. I was watching some earlier bathurst videos and they looked pretty slow on the straight LOL. f#####g 500bhp+ cars.

Down Conrod the Cosworth Sierra's and the Commondoors went around the corolla's like they were going backwards but across the top of the mountain it was a completely different story, even the M3's had a hard time staying with them especially the FWD's.
Miss those days..

When i was watching the old Bathurst videos, you could see the corolla advertising all over the place with 'COROLLA THE HOT HATCH'. Everyone commented on how quick they were over the top of the mountain, and thats what they were ment to do. I say bring back the ATCC, I'm over this bogan holden v ford rubbish.

I don't have any decent shots of the AE92's interior but John Smith gave me this one.The man himself on the right, in case anyone doesn't know he was Toyota's lead driver back in the mid to early 90's

Dragging out an old thread, I see there has been some noise around regarding the restorations of the AE86 GT coupe and the AE92 FX-GT that were run by Toyota Team Australia between 1984 and 1993. The AE86 won its class at Bathurst in 1988 and the AE92 won with Bates and Dowson in 1989. Corolla's also set the Guiness record for most consecutive starts/wins at the time.

Well both cars are together at the moment while I am gethering information and parts to ensure I get them as close to original as possible. Threads like these are valuable with many images and stories.

Here are the cars today, and any information you can provide maybe helpful.

The AE86 is complete and just needs a freshen up with new seals, oils, filters, clean out the fuel system and see if it fires up. The AE92 requires considerable more work including a new engine and running gear, some body work and paint. Both need new tyres and safety gear.

Will keep you posted if anyone is interested
