Hey guys,

my nevo idler pulley has got a loose center bearing and has been scraping on the bracket that the tensioner uses...

So I went ahead and ordered a 4AGE timing belt tensioner pulley, a GMB unit for $35...

All went well, added 3 reasonable washers to bring it out 1-2mm from the bracket when put on there backwards... until my tensioner ran out of adjustment and I was left with one rather limp 975mm belt... it has some cracks in it anyhoo.

Question; is anyone running the 4AGE tensioner pulley as their s/c idler/adjuster pulley? If so, what size belt are you using, I'd assume i'll need to drop back to a 960 or 965mm..

Cheers,

Yes it's different, there is not enough room for a standard sized idler... however the tensioner pulley is smaller than the nevo one by some margin.

the timing belt idler/tensioner make for a great s/c belt idler/tensioner. you can use it with the braket or cut it off. a couple washers to space it right and i welded a larger nut onto the stock one so it sticks out making it easy to get to with a ring spanner... no more stripped nut as it's a bastard nut. haha.

i've sorted out the spacer behind it, luckily bunnings had m10 washers that the chinese make, so there was a few there that were double thickness :).

I also used another one on the outside of the tensioner which mostly centers the bolt to stop all the slack.

I need to get another belt, i put some string all the way around in one of the grooves of the pulleys, it came to 945mm under tension and with the idler/tensioner pulley at full adjustment.

I assume this would be close to a 960mm belt required. Feral, what size belt did you use ? I have the nevo 175mm and the map supercharger pulley.

Ok,

5pk955 was too small...
5pk 965mm fits fine just fine and still another 1-1.5cm of adjustment left on the idler.

Car was shoving me forwards like a complete bitch whenever i'd try to nail it, i then saw my fuel gauge was bottomed out and the fuel had been sitting there for 1+ months...
gave her $25 of 98ron, which got me about 5ltrs lol, and she was back to screaming up the revs... I could swear it is quicker and i hear no belt hiss/squeal!!!!

Running MAP. I guess an AFM charger would be 5pk975 or 980 and the belt wrap would be even more.

would that be cause the sc pulley is larger? (running larger belt)

hrmm so what do you need for the timing belt idler to fit onto the idler for the sc? just the idler and a few washers? so i would pretty much use the standard adjuster etc but just a diff idler pulley?

Yes a few washers, spaced it out 5 or 6mm from memory, then the tensioner put on backwards, then another washer to stop the tensioner from jiggling around too much on its 10mm slot.

Correct, I just used the standard adjuster.

I need to re-check mine to see if it is all still tight, given that with the thicker tensioner pulley and washers there is less thread to use for the nut.

i used another nut with mine because of that, the stock one doesnt have thread all the way to the base of the nut.

FYI, the timing belt tensioner pulley is still going strong in it's duty as a s/c idler.. longest lasting of all that I've tried thus far... about to replace the belts again...
