from the daily telegraph...

FOUR V8 Supercars were involved in a road accident in Bahrain when the carrier truck transporting them was forced to come to a sudden stop on the highway leading into the circuit.

A flat top truck carrying the Commodores of Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly as well as the Falcons of Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards was forced to brake heavily, causing the cars to shift and make contact with each other.

It is possible, though it has not been confirmed, that one of the cars fell off the truck completely.

The incident happened about 9am local time (5pm Sydney time) on the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway - the main stretch of road from Bahrain International Airport to the Bahrain International Circuit.

It is believed another vehicle had pulled out in front of the carrier, causing the accident which caused major traffic delays in the area.

The extent of the damage to the vehicles is not known at this stage but it is not believed to be extensive enough to rule them out of the Desert 400 round here starting Thursday.

V8 Supercars Australia CEO Wayne Cattach is expected to hold a press conference later today as more details come to light

Update from Sky News :

Quote

A spectacular crash involving a truck transporting four V8 Supercars in Bahrain has been branded a lucky escape after the vehicles came away with only minor damage and nobody was hurt.

A freighter carrying the Commodores of Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly and the Falcons of Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottam and Steven Richards made contact with a four-wheel drive and was forced to take evasive action yesterday

The force of the stop caused the straps to snap and the cars shifted into each other, with Winterbottam's car falling off the side of the truck.

All the cars are expected to be repaired in time for today's opening practice session at the Bahrain International Circuit.

V8 Supercars Australia operations manager Kurt Sakzewski says the incident could have been a catastrophe if the cargo strapping was not as strong.

Anyone taking bets that Rick Kelly paid the 4WD driver for the stunt?

Tander was in front of the truck slowing him down so Rick Kelly could catch up, then when Kelly couldn't pass the truck, he punted into the back of him and said it was a "racing incident"....
