Hi Guys,

New to the forum, Howdy and have an issue with the my bike.

The bike hasnt been started in about a year or so, and I initially had trouble started it.

I read these forums quite a bit to figure out why it wouldnt start. I thought it was the battery at first as it was dead flat and I had recharged it using a car battery charger.

I got a quote for a new battery for $110 and thought before I commit to a new battery i'd try some Nulon 'start ya bastard'. I finally got it turned over. It wouldnt stay on at first, though while it was trying to stay on I kept on spraying the nulon stuff up the intake. It worked to some degree.

The issue I have now is that the bike turns on easily but instantly revs out to redline and wont come back down.

Now Ive researched quite a bit on what the problem could be but would like your direct thoughts on what could be the solution here.

Cheers

Daniel

It is obviously related to something been stuck/sticking together but what could it be.

Questions first:
Are you using your choke when starting?
What happens when you give the throttle a quick twist, will the revs drop back?
Have you been screwing in the idle stop adjuster (the little knob on the left hand side of the fairing)?

If its only doing it sometimes and you think the throttle cable is getting stuck or something, best get the boot lifted and have a good looking over the carbs.

Re Choke: Yes and No, tried both and its has no effect on anything, revs just shoot to redline instantly.

Re Throttle Twist: Tried that, no effect. It still instantly jumps to redline.

I havent played with anything at all since it was running faultlessy 12months ago.

The boot is off atm, I tried to take the carbies off but one of the screwdriver nuts is damaged, really upset about that as its going to be real difficult to take the carbies off now.

Thanks heaps for the reply, anyone else have any ideas?

Cheers

Oh and it is doing it everytime I start the bike.

I kept turning it on and off so it could try and stay on for a few minutes, but nothing changed.

Just shoots to redline instantly, exhaust also glows red inside pretty quick, and it had a major major backfire when I went to turn it off then on again quickly.

Cheers

When you turn the throttle are the butterflies opening and closing? To check just twist the throttle and watch in the middle of the carbies, you should see the shaft that the butterflies are connected to twisting. If they don't the throttle cable could be stuck in it's cover or the shaft is stuck. Disconnect the cable and try twisting the butterfly shaft by hand. If it's only the cable stuck in the cover you may be able to work it loose and lubricate it without fitting a new cable. A cable lubricator can be bought at most bike shops as it is a popular item for dirt riders.

Good advice, I will check tomorrow.

The sites been dopwn for a couple of days, well to me anyway.

Sounds like theirs something seriously wrong with your throttle butterflys. Either the idle adjuster is wound way too far in or the butterflys are stuck from some other reason. It's time to take the air box off and have a closer look to check if they are closing. Alternatively does the trottle grip return on its own when twiisted to full throttle? (with the bike off of course)

1.get some carby cleaner the spray type and give it a good running over and check that the butterflies close and open fully

2. wind down your idle to the left to nothing then 1 turn back
3. drain you tank and get some new fuel and oil in her asap (when oil and fuel sits it gets old and gummy and tends to chew plastic and rubbers if sat for long enough, you wouldnt be suprised at what that can do to your engine ive seen my mates old falcon with a worked 308 in it. left it for a year then decided to start it had it running all of 2 hours before it seized :shocking: i was totally shocked (yes it did have oil in it) just really really old
