I did some searching but could not find any dedicated threads to this so I started one. If there is already one up that I have overlooked I appologise and can someone give me a link.

I have a rt142 corona with a 1g in her, but due to increasing fuel prices I am thinking about downsizing my transportation to something with 4age power. I keep dreaming of what it would be like to own a 20v and hear those screaming quads :D

Can those with different 4age motors plz give me an idea of the fuel economy you are getting. If you could list your variation, mods and car that would be awesome. I know the 4agze is pretty thirsty but how are the 4agte on fuel as well?
I am thinking of getting a ae93, hatch or sx seca with a 20V or the like.

My car is already quite good on fuel ie 50L to a tank and I get easily 550kms per tank everytime and that is with a 4.3 diff, single snail conversion but only running 6psi boost on a kkr480.

But I am thinking a 4age should be a lot better on fuel than that.

Thanks in advance. This is a good forum heaps of nice cars and good info.

I havent got mine running on the road just yet, but i've heard if u stay off VVT on the 20v's they r quite good on fuel but as soon as u get on the VVT a lot they r almost as thirsty as the GZE.
That's wat i've heard neways.

You must not have searched hard. Plenty of threads.
I get 7.2-8.6 L/100km on 98RON in my VVT 20V in ae92.

AE92 w/20V, no aircon, no power steer. Vpower Racing 100 oct.

Brisbane to Gladstone, mostly sitting on speed limit with a couple of overtakes and a little running around in Gladstone when I got here. 609klms in 39.72L = 6.52L/100klms :)

Such an environmentally friendly car :)

Can anyone else nominate a better "green" performance car? 0-100 in 7s and 15.3 1/4 mile with that sort of economy.

Cheers,
Julian

PS. f#####g hot when I drove up so the window was down the whole trip. If I did the trip in winter with the windows up it would have been better still.

my 20v... 500k max out of one tank... thats pushing it for me... normal driving 400k... (Bp ultimate)

and yes VVT does seem to eat fuel like a bitch, its annoying cause on second gen ST the VVT kicks in by 15deg TPS... which means way more often then first gen ST which is somewhere round 4500rpm...

I have an AE111 Levin coupe, black rocker cover 20v, it is a 5 speed model, which has very short gearing, I have done some minor mods that have netted 100kw at the wheels, so it goes quite nicely :-)

It is still running standard exhaust from the cat back, which is going to stay.

I average around the 7.2ltr/100km, the worst I have had is 7.6ltr/100 km, this was with aircond flat out and still revving it to redline.

I don't pussy the car, it gets a big rev all the time.

I went for drive on freeway the other day, sat on 110km/h which is around 3600rpm in 5th, when pulling away from low speed corners etc etc was revving it to rev limiter, on this trip of about 170km it got 6.2ltr/100km.

When I first got this car I was going to be happy with 9-10ltr/100km(part of reason I got this car was to have more fuel efficient car) when I measured the fuel consumption in the first week and got like 7.2ltr/100km I was very happy.

Both my old big port and my newer small port scored somewhere between 6-7.5L/100km no matter how hard they were driven. I make an effort though to avoid late braking and maintain steady speed through traffic. I also run 40psi tyres and make sure there is no excess weight in the car.

lol - I even removed the engine lift hooks out of the 82 to save a few grams I figured were useless...

The 4age is a great engine. Adequate performance with no compromise on economy.

I typed '4age fuel economy' into the search function and no dedicated threads came up. If there are plenty that I have overlooked then could you plz put up a link to one or two of those threads.

Thanks for all the great info.

I thought the 4age would yield some good economy figures. Good to know the blacktop 20v is also good on fuel as that would be my pick of the bunch if I were to buy one.

On the other hand the 4agze goes through similiar fuel to some v8's do. Big incentive to do the 4agte changeover!

What ruins the fuel efficiency of gzes are aftermarket ECUs, I've seen gzes running as low as 8.5L/100kms, but yes my old mans VE SS has over 2x the power as my car and just has better economy

Lots of factors determine them...

Weight
Age of engine
Driver and how she drives it
Hwy or stop start traffic
Timing and tune and how farked up or nice and neat she's running
Worn clutch

Even rebuilding one, it won't be the same as it rolling out of the Toyota factory, but it will come close.

My old SX did roughly 400 - 450kms per tank, about 40L's

I used to own a U13 bluebird, 2.4L twin cam, 112kw nice car but I had to give up on solving the fuel economy thing.

On the highway I could get 150kms out of 10L with the air con on, but in the city it was absolutely shithouse, off 40L city driving would get around 250kms to 300kms.

I ended up selling it and got a vx wagon overall it has better fuel economy. I replaced all sorts of stuff on the bluebird to figure out why it was so bad but never ended up solving the problem. At least it was pretty reliable.

Sounds like overall the 4age is a good choice you still get respectable power with awesome economy.

ae93 sx with a few mods, fuel econ depends soley on how and where the car is driven. most of my driving is done in the city (not really stop-start too much) and when i go on higher speed roads its generally up the freeway (which is pretty darn steep) or through the hills (spirited driving usually).

my tank only holds about 42l i reckon, typically in town i'll get around 8.5-10L/100km depending on how much i 'baby' it. cos 110kph is 3500rpm (ish) i don't get good highway economy either. the best i've ever had from a tank was about 6.8L/100km and that was taking it really easy all week (very difficult in a 4age)

but the car runs reasonably rich up top so once i sort that out i should be able to get some better numbers

I used to get around 9.5L/100km with the stock motor, I get better economy with the tune and turbo if I take it easy, closer to 8.5L/100km now. If I do spirited driving then the economy goes out the window.

damn im lucky to knock 400 off these days with 30-35 litres of BP ultimate

i think the most i ever got was 440 and that was a long time ago

from memory the 82 is supposed to have a 50 litre tank......f##k that for a joke 36 is the most ive ever got out of it so unless my fuel gauge is reading low and ive got another 14 litres sitting in there there must be something wrong

id would expect 600-700 of of 50 litres in my car

50L of v power or bp ultimate would cost around $71.50 (average of $1.43 a litre) and out of that i reckon i could get around 350-400 with the occasional squirt here and there, but even after owning the car for 2 years i have never filled the tank full.

the 650 i got was with just before the F symbol, not completly full but almost.

has anyone ever noticed that when the fuel gage reaches half way it drops quicker than what it took from full to half?

Man the gauges on our cars are dodgy as, sometimes I feel like getting an aftermarket gauge for absolutely everything so I know what's really going on. But then I remember what a fag I'd look like and change my mind

fuel guage = fail

100km before the needle moves off full......200km it goes down to half......then i get about 50-100km out of the bottom "half" of the tank
