Hey guys, got my engine running in the new twinky tonight, and realised its pissing oil out from somewhere. Looks like it could be coming from either the oil pump or the front seal. Its leaking quite extensively, and i can see proof that the previous owner has neglected the fact that it has been leaking as theres shitloads of oil all over the drivers side suspension/brakes etc.

Anyone had a similar oil leak and know where it had come from, it would help alot not having to pay someone to fix this.

Anything on the Belt end of these engines is a PITA to work on. They'll charge you $800 just because the labour sucks to do. It will probably be one (or more) of the front seals.

Have you taken the belt cover off yet? Good place to start.

yeah i've got the belt cover off, definitely not the cam seals, looks like its coming from the oil pump. so i'll probably buy a new timing belt and pulleys if it needs them, and replace the front seal. Although i'm hoping to high heaven that this wont be the case, i simply dont have the time for this. i'll be out of town most of the week and have to find the time to have a roadworthy done on the mr2 and change the alternator belt while im at it.

Another possibility is the oil pressure sender switch & of course the distributor

Yes thankyou blutie, i put some more fuel in it just then and started her up, it seems its coming from either two of what you have mentioned blutie, actually, spur of the moment thought, maybe the noob hasnt tightened the oil filter properly.

*runs to go check*

I'm going to replace the oring on the distributor, it may have shrunk, and i'll see if thats where its coming from, And if its not that it has to be the oil pressure sender

There are two seals on the distributor; with a leak that bad its probably the internal seal that needs replacing, which involves disassembling the distributor.

But if it was, thered be oil in the dizzy cap. and there isnt.

My cousin said he had a similar leak in his corolla, he bought a new oil pressure sender and put thread tape and 'bob was his uncle'.

Its gotta be that. Same constant dripping when running and just put oil everywhere and its coming from the same place so yep.

rocket science.

and to think i was going to take this in to a mechanic.

What tool do you use to remove the oil presure sender. I dont want to break it off or damage it.
