Hey all,

I found it convenient to find out that this forum had its own suzuki section! I've mainly been a member for the corolla part - but now I have a bike.

Just wondering if it is difficult for someone who doesn't know much about bikes to change the jet needle?

I found this OLD SCHOOL site in google when questioning my fuel consumption [http://au.geocities....0/needles.html] and found some guides on how to improve fuel efficiency. I THINK my bike would already be on the 3rd position and want to try the 2nd.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

- Peter

Its pretty easy to change if you know where to find a left handed screwdriver.

Use said screwdriver to open the plates on the top of each carb and you can then get the slides out. They are the black plastic bits with the jet needles hanging out the bottom. Relocate the circlip to lower the needle one notch and reverse the procedure to close up the carbs. The vacuum seals can get stretched and means you need to fiddle to get them to fit, or in worst case replace if they are too stretched or torn. Your slide holders (the little white clips) can get worn too and this has an effect on power and economy.

Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Trev

What is your fuel efficiency? I would like to know how much roughly people get on a tank of petrol. I get about 160-180kms on a tank depending on how much around town riding i do, but I don't know whether I should be getting more. I was only getting about 120 then I replaced the trottle slides and it jumped up.

The best I got was 170. By last one was 130 but was doing quite a bit of high revving. what is the trottle slide?

Opps I meant throttle slides holders sorry was typing in a bit of a hurry, they are some ridiculous little bits of white plastic which hold the slide needles, they get worn and need to be replaced everynow again. But check out http://au.geocities....250/holder.html for a far better explanation and a detailed description of how to change them.

160-180 out of a tank is pretty good. If the throttle slide holders are buggered it will affect the performance as well as the economy.

Harte I used to have a set of left handed screwdrivers but my old man flogged them, haven't been able to find another set yet.

is that up to 180 including the reserve?

My Across gets approx:

(city):
amber warning around 105-110 (5.5L gone)
red warning about 160-165 (8L gone)
main tank empty 180-185 (10L gone)
reserve empty 200-205 (12L gone)

(highway):
up to around 240-260 before dry.

consumption is anywhere from 16km/L to 22km/L depending on how you use the throttle.

My lights must have been set differently. My amber would come on after 8 litres had gone, about 100-120k's, red when I had used 10 litres and had to switch to reserve about 150-160k's. I never tried to push it past 180 before refuelling, depending on when I had to switch reserve on. I also found my economy didn't differentiate much between around town or out on the open road. I've also found the 750 gets heaps better economy.

Amber at around 120, I would get about 16.7km/l, carbs are only adjusted by me so I think a trip to a mechanic could improve it but Acrosses are thirsty...
