or you could just boost it by an extra 10psi and get the same effect without having to pay ten million dollars per L for race fuel

This is a list of my very budget engine modifications I had on my Twin Cam AE82 back in the day when I was on my P's and I was a apprentice.

Exhaust: 2.5in press bent decent muffler and cat. I know most will disagree with the pres bent, but a press bent 2.5in exhaust will flow about the same as a mandrel bent 2-2.25in which is the ideal size for a close to stock 4age.

Headers: Factory, extend secondaries by 2in from what I can remember (easy to do yourself or by a mate that can weld well to save money) helps a little for top end. Do this at the same time as exhaust so it all fits.

Intake: I uses a K&N pod filter with ally shelid to seal from rest of engine bay (can also made myself to save money) use cheap 4in duct from front of car for clean air. at the drags you can pull out the headlight for the best result. I eventually installed a little grilled scoop on the bonnet just above the filter. at the time I thought this looked cool, but at lest it actually did somthink unlike all the fake ones you see.

Compression:I got hold of a extra thin (0.8mm i think) TRD metal head gasget, helped to up the compression just a little. Get a good workshop manual and its not to hard to install yourself.

Computer:I got hold of a second hand Apeix SAFC. installed it myself and spent up big (for back then anyway) for a good workshop to tune it on the dyno for a couple of hours. To all you P platers, don't try and tune or even play with these things unless you really know what your doing.
Also I added a a resistor in parrell I think, with the air temp sensor. This helps to advance the timming just a little.

With the upped compression and advanced timming I ran premuim fule to be safe. Aso make sure you keep good quality fresh fluids in it.

With all this work done, with good tyers I ran a 15.91 at Kwinana Motorplex and could run 16 flat all day.

I would agree that you get more bang for buck with tyers, suspension but as a young guy living close to the plex thats not what mattered to me.

Regarding extractors....

If you have a 16v, you can use OEM 20v tubular extractors as a decent upgrade. Should be able to pick up a set of silvertop headers with secondaries for anywhere between $35-$70 depending on condition.
Blacktop headers may cost more as they are rarer (they have larger diameter piping).

You will need to re-drill the 2 outer bolt holes on the flange for them to fit. Use a 16v exhaust manifold gasket to get the correct position for the re-drilled holes.
Also, make sure you keep the 20v secondary pipes too as you will need the flange to make new secondaries.

Heat wrap the headers to keep the exhaust gasses hot and moving fast for that little extra power....

Nonstoptuning and pulleybros sells upgraded pulley kits, however they are fairly expensive. your best bet is to wait around for a NEVO or similar to pop up in the classifieds.

I ran avgas (108 octane) in mine, made a metric fucktonne more power!

Or for on the cheap, add mothballs to the petrol tank. As proven by mythbusters.

Warning, do not run your car in an open space for the above though, must be run in an enclosed space (such as a garage) for a minimum of 15 minutes, as the fuel tank needs the return line to help mix the mothballs in properly.
