Hey guys, A little while ago I took my rolla out to mallala for the first time.
The car performed better than what I expected exept for the brakes which were fried by a few quik laps.
The engine is a 4age 20 valave silvertop.
Best lap is around 1:35 ish. (haven't really cheked properly to be sure)
Soon to come is Bazda's coilovers and a brake upgrade which I hope will wipe 4-5 seconds off the clock.

Brake plans are in the works, mainly because aftermarket parts are not readily available such as the DBA 5000 series which would have suited fine. I went through the online catalogue and it doesn't say that they are available :(. But the general idea will be bigger brakes that have a high temperature operating range, so they won't be streetable unless
there is something that can be used for both track and road. Currently I'm trying to get something custom made up by a friend of a friend in the Industry, I won't hold my breath on that one though (ceramic disks and pads). I've still got plenty of time to source them as the next track day has not been decided.

Update.

So I talked to a brake specialist and he told me it's not all about the disks, but they will give you better endurance if they are bigger and wider (won't warp as easy). So what I am going to try and do is find the widest disk that can fit and has a 54mm hole and machine it down in diamiter. If I can only find a minor increase then I won't bother. More effort is done by the brake pads so I have been recomended Lukasz pads ($80) or go top end EBC Yellow Stuff pads($300).
Only time on the track will tell if the setup is any good.

I have lucas pads at the moment and they're not too bad for the price but next Im going to try qfm pads.

If you look at the brake upgrade thread it should tell you how to adapt the 55mm centre ae101 hubs onto the original knuckles. Just to give you some more options. It may allow you to use st185 celica brakes but Im not 100% on that. You would have have to have the disks drilled for the 4x100 stud pattern and you might have trouble fitting them under 15 inch wheels.

Though most people round here will run superstrut calipers from import ae101s and modified disks.

Most common replacement options you'll find width wise are 22mm.

You should also look at the ae101 rear disk option as you wouldn't want to run into brake bias issues.

OR find one with a bigger internal diameter and machine it out slightly and machine up a press style egg ring with a 54mm internal diameter and use that.

i have been down this road already, trying to save you effort and time.

if you just bolt these rotors and calipers on you will have no bias issue, infact, you will feel a slight increase in brake effeciency. it when you install bigger calipers with bigger pistons is when you start having issues, this is another reason i went to a pedal box so i could size the brake cylinders accordingly.

Well I have recieved my coilovers from barry and installed them last thursday in the arvo. Already I can add another 10kmph around a certain bend I use to test out the suspension, thats taking it easy aswell. Phenominal grip with the camber and stiffness of the entire strut. But my friend it comes at a cost of ride comfort. You feel EVERY bump on the road. Also any camber adustment unfortunately gives you a bit of toe in so any changes and you need a wheel alignment. Mine is actually being done today. Now the excellent thing about Bazda coilovers is that he can make them to suit your needs, meaning I asked for mine to be rock hard. If you do a search for a member called "bazda" you should find him quite easily. I must commed barry on his excellend service and communication so if he is readung this, top work mate!
On the issue of brakes I have bought a front set of ae93 sx series 2 brakes including disks, calipers and dust shields. The disks themsleves are slightly larger and thicker. I was originally thinking I would like to get race pads but after a hills run I think this current brake upgrage plus good quality pads will do for road use. For the track I will go to ebc to get some race pads.

aaahhhhhh I love the feeling when it is all coming together...... Respray will be coming soon as soon as the weather stays consistently warm.... I will no longer need my sterio when I install my haltec ecu and bask in the glory that is open throttles....... may the twinky god shine upon you all!!

The other thing you may want to try to keep brake temps down is to run some ducting at each corner (similar to cai piping) but for the brakes to increase the airflow. To avoid warping, after a session don't just pull in and stop do a bit of easy driving so you cool down the rotors as evenly as possibly.
