Oh, and hello all *waves* My misses has just purchased an 93'across. We have joined this forum in hopes to share(more like pillage) info regarding the bike. im thinking about doing a quick rebuild as i noticed oil in the airbox and suspect its from blowback and needs rings.
Came here in hopes to learn what mods people do to increase performance. Parts sources. Stuff like that.
Also a couple of weird things we have noticed so far. The bikes rotors are very.. umm pitted? Not like corrosion but are very riged. Is this a normal thing to occur to motorcycles? i've never maintained a bike with disk breaks and wasn't a sure if it was a result of the heavy cross drilled rotos normal wear. or if someone had run the bike without pads. The ridges are too deep to machine out IMO they need replacing.
And another thing, someone has disconnected the earth and hooked about 60cm of extra 4 awg in there, which just loops though the frame and engine bay before terminating back on the negative of the battery. Is this some sort of weird fix for an electrical issue, or is someone just been retarded?
well good to be here, and i hope i can share some information back at some stage.

hey welcome
nice to know the across lives on .
have a look through the technical section, a lot of mechanically minded people have been here at one time or another
I know nothing more than put the key in, turn it on , and it go's

Oil in the airbox is perfectly normal. Been a long time since I had an across but this is where the overflow normally goes.
Extra wire looped back to the battery is strange. Maybe a leftover electrical mod from a previous owner that was taken out.
Not sure about the pitting. Are you talking about small craters or rings on the rotors. Rings are pretty normal and the pads will bed into them quickly. The rotors should have a minimum thickness stamped on them so might be worth getting a vernier out to check the thickness. You can run under thickness rotors for a while but if it isn't stopping well, I wouldn't chance it.

Ditto to what Ashes said. I had consistently the same thing with an across I did 90K on. Neither the oil or the discs should be a problem.
Wire? Yeah Weird! no idea.

That's 3 strikes, those problems are outta here. As Ashes and Radyn said both are normal just keep an eye on the minimum thickness of the rotor. I used to clean the air box out every now and then to keep the oil in it to a minimum. It's from the breather pipe on the top of the rocker cover.
Hope your missus enjoys the bike. So when are you getting a ride for yourself?
