Hey

Im sure most of you would of heard about toyotas new coupe that they will be realeasing eventually.. having subaru and toyota paired up in designing the car should be a well blanced handling machine... also it seems that Akio Toyoda is taking a passion to push this car into development as he did with the lexus supercar.

Having the tokyo auto salon show on there was a lot of hype about the new toyota FT-86. since i dont see any discussions about this car i thought i'd make one...

anyways heres some pictures, links and some articles.

Since it's a "concept," Toyota hasn't divulged much about the FT-86 yet, but we do know it's powered by a Subaru-derived 2.0-liter boxer four sending power to the rear wheels. Toyota focused on keeping the weight down to improve handling and, according to one source, the platform is unique to the concept. The engine sits lower in the engine bay to aid aerodynamics while keeping the center of gravity in check, and the overall dimensions of Toyota's new 2+2 are 163.78 inches long and 69.29 inches wide, with a wheelbase of 101.18 inches

G's FT86 we saw a peek of the ft-86 during the set-up day. The front-mounted intercooler hints that a possible future turbocharged version of this much anticipated sports car might be a possibility, and by the time the car hits dealers there should already be tons of tune-up products available from G's and of course TRD.

Yes is looking to be a nice car. Thread here already covering it though: http://www.twincam.info/index.php?showtopi...080&hl=ft86

Second picture of the convertible is also a fake, no convertible has been announced (and hopefully never will be IMO).

Looks ok from some angles, but it's too curvy and rounded in some places. The back looks too 350Z inspired.

Plus it's got a boxer engine...... :death: Yuck. Needs moar 1J

If they are around or under $30k I'll be buying one, and modding it, and tracking it, and you haters can just man up and live with it.
I see no justifyable reason why this will not be a good car.

More info: http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/...00119-mhm4.html

FT86 looks hot - I don't think the production model will be so over the top .. 2L turbo RWD would be all good. I think it will be a big seller, however depends on price. Can't see it going for less than $45k though, around WRX money. If it goes for too much more, won't sell I don't think.

Why is there spectualation it won't sell.

Mazda RX8
Honda S2000
Nissan 350Z/370Z

They all sold well. Toyota has been hiding there performance guys away for 10 years to build the Lexus LFA. Hopefully the 10years and the production of the LFA will Abe the new era for toyotas performance range.

350z sold probably the most out of those listed.. But haven't seen hardly any 370's on the road up here since it's introduction so that may have faded.

S2000 sold well at first, then gradually died out, and has been discontinued.

RX8 you see the odd one now and then, but not too many around.

These sorts of cars have a rather limited market, especially in Australia where you have a small market to begin with, so the manufacturers have to sell a bit here to justify the dealer/parts support/etc. The market for any hot performance 2 door has died a little, especially with the current hysteria surrounding anything "performance".

I have seen 4 370z buzzing around my area alone, millions of s2000s and a decent number of RX8s. I disagree
with the whole slump in the 2-door market. Especially if your comparing it to today's current market. If there comparing this to the sales in the 90s well of coarse. But consider the amount of 2drs built then compared to now.

Knowing toyota, i think the pricing will be more like 45k for the top of the range, replacing the old celica zr market, which wasn't really a good market at that price. Probably just going to be the fact its a new RWD sports car, a rare sight at toyota. Hopefully though prices won't be that high...

Back End Looks like 350Z.
Front End looks like R35 Skyline [From this Angle]

Something about this reminds me of a Ferrari 360 Modena ?

Anyways, Point is,
The car, Once, or IF, Produced, Will 9/10 most likely NOT Look Much like this at all.
They usually go way over the top Designing the Concept, Everyone thinks "Sick As" So the company produces them,
Then hey, All of a sudden they've gone from Insane Looking concept To s##t Looking Normal-ish road car.

The new [Now Old] Turbo Fiesta Concept Car Looked pretty Insane,
Then when they produced it, sure it isnt a bad looking car, but they changed all the wheels and bumpers and stuff to gay things.

Gay gay gay.

If this car is Produced,
Im Hoping TOYOTA Built the Gearbox.
Last thing we need is a Boxer-Powered Gearbox-Blowing Car to Destroy Toyota's Reputation as having Indestructible Cars.

Actually,
Take a long hard look at this car,
And Think..

Does it just look like a Compact R35 Skyline?
IS that just me?

I could swear to God....

Just curious, are subaru boxes poorly designed/built or is it just that they have to stand up to awd abuse?

Because I mean when you put big torque down the to ground and the wheels cant freely spin like with most rwd's then isn't that why they break so frequently?

I'm not too familiar with evos or other awd cars but I know plenty that break boxes and I always just figured this was why.

Any update on the engine platform being used? Is it going to be a variant of the EJ series? That would be handy being able to throw an EJ20 in there :)
