Here's the details of the new ABV mod, courtesy of the late founder of The Pulley Bros. (My respects).

I did this mod in about an hour all up. It closes your ABV harder and faster than the normal ABV mod, as you don't have the boost drop of the intercooler or the lag of the intake tract.
This would be especially useful for those with front mount intercoolers and the like. Hopefully it will hold the ABV closed longer for those with more boost.

Here's a pic of how to do it. This will suit GZE Corollas, for the MR2, you best check that the location of the fitting doesn't foul anything. The fitting can be anywhere on the pipe that's convenient.

Oh, also be careful you don't damage the gasket either. It's part number 17858-16010 from Toyota. They are available in the country, usually overnight and they are only about $15-ish or so. So it's probably a good idea to get one, just in case.

And a pdf I made of the connections.

As for the fuel pressure regulator etc, just plumb it straight into the intake manifold, and T off that line for your boost gauge.

Enjoy.

Genuis, this should hopefully fix the stumble for those with front mount intercoolers.
Better than trying to adapt 2 throttle bodies, which ive seen but involves a lot of tinkering.

The other thing to try for the bad idle with a front mount intercooler is to plumb the idle speed control valve into the intake tract just before the manifold, or even into the manifold. A one way valve will prevent boost being lost back through the valve, and with the ISCV bypassing the whole long intake track, the ISCV system will be MUCH more responsive (better than stock) and your idle will improve.

Trick is finding a factory Toyota stepper motor ISCV that's not part of the throttle body..... Hmmm, time to go looking. Maybe something from a silver top or black top.....

New ABV mod

Stock pulleys

3deg retard on exhaust cam

3SGTE throttle body

11PSI boost

Hell yea. B)

(Did I mention STOCK pulleys?)

This thing punches through the low RPM now, really. All my mates are amazed how quick it is off the line now. Want full boost from ~3000RPM onwards? Do this mod. I'm pulling 10PSI at 3000RPM now.
In 5th gear on the freeway, I don't down-shift to overtake. :)

D:
Nice work!

Getting it Dyno'd?
Interested to see what kind of power,
and more importantly,
How nice and smooth the Torque curve / Power delivery is.

Sounds awesome.
Top work (:.

I am curious to know how much it would drop if you were to run a FMIC instead of that rubbish POS oem one...

I run no abv. Fuel economy is for pussies. Running no abv also makes for a VERY noticeable kick when the supercharger switches on. It's cool :P

I have blocked my ABV completly off with some alloy. I seen somebody that made a custom SC12 exhausts they had no passage for the air bypass valve and the whole had just been plummed up he said that it gave abit of a kick when the supercharger wasnt hooked up to the ignition as the engine had to draw the air through the chargers rotors but when he hooked it up to the ignition the clutch engaged when the car turned on so it ran smoother and gained boost. Im yet to hook my charger up to the ignition as the engine is out for an overhaul but when it goes back in ill let you know the gains.

Only problem I see with having the supercharger on all the time is heat. Be sure you have a larger intercooler, as the constant production of boost will make things nice and heatsoaky. Also be careful you don't overheat your charger too. The lobes tend to expand with the heat and if they get too hot, the clearances will close up and things touch and get messy.

Just letting you know. :)

Ok cool so ill just leave it then but wont the engine run like poop while not making boost as is has to suck air through the rotors? Im yet to see how it runs but it would be putting a strain on the engine no doubt.

Hence why it uses a relay to control it from the factory.

Niiice, keen to do this mod myself, saw the claims on the pulleybros website but wanted to get my coolant leak fixed first.

Wonder how'd it would go with a 175Nevo with an ARC cooler. . . . Already getting close to 12 psi.

Could you do the mod without removing the pipe and damaging the gasket, or do you need to disconnect from the S/Charger.

You can try, but you'll probably just end up with a lot of frustration and metal shavings in your supercharger. There's barely enough room to get your hand in to take it out, let alone get a drill and a tap in there.

Good luck trying......

Ah, ok, out it comes then.

The PDF you posted at the begining is showing up as a dead link for some reason.

Any issues with previous ABV mod already having been done?
