This morning i headed down to Phillip Island in Victoria for the Historic race event. My dad was entered in the regularity section in his Bolwell Mk7 which he ended up coming 2nd in. So my main interest of the day was to watch dad have a punt around with 60 odd other classic cars from Datsun Z's to Porsche 911's and various other cars until i spotted in the back of one of the pit garages a AE82 FX-GT race car! So as any sane enthusiast would do i ventured in and asked to have a look. Not ever seeing one of these before so i was wetting my pants in excitement and had to ask more about the car. The bloke fitting the wheels back on pointed over to an older guy in blue overalls and said "he can help you out". So i approached him and introduced myself and very quickly realized it was Bob Holden (info: http://en.wikipedia....(racing_driver) ) He was awesome to chat with but i didn't have much time and it was also quite loud but i did find out that the AE82 he had was built for Le Mans in 1986 and then went over to Great Britain to race the British Touring Car Championship in 1986 - 1987 and won both years to my knowledge. It was then owned by some Japanese guys (unsure of name) and apparently wasn't very successful. Bob then came into possession of the car and all the spares in 1990 and has owned the car since. It sat in a shed for about 16 years and he was then asked to bring it out for events such as the Historics and others.
The motor in still and 4age Bigport and has had a freshen up but nothing changed from it former glory. When attempting to start it after 16 years he said the standard computer had died so it now has a microtech ecu and makes about 220hp.
Unfortunately i didn't get a chance to ask anything else about the car and it's history, i could have stood there for ages!

But anyway here are a couple of photo's my lovely Girlfriend took.

Your best shot by far. Great foreground, and perfect background too. In what way did it sound different from the rest of our non-race prepped 4age engines? ;)
