Hi all,

I have a 91 Across with difficulties starting.

At first it was having trouble idling properly at start-up and even when pulled up at the lights. Then I didn't ride it for a week and went to start her up and now I'm just getting a clicking noise when I hit the ignition switch and the motor is not turning over at all. I've identified the source of the clicking - it's coming from a part that's attached to the left hand side of the battery case. I can't seem to find it in the manuals so I'm not certain whether it's the starter motor or what. Can anyone help me out with that?

Given that it's making a clicking noise I'm not even certain that there's actually anything wrong with it or whether it's the "next part in the process" that's failing so to speak. I have checked the battery and there's no problems there, so I'm kind of stuck until I can find what this mystery part is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ok,
So I have now identified the mystery part as the RELAY! Which means that either my battery doesn't have enough charge to power up the starter motor or the relay or the starter motor is stuffed. The battery is only 3 months old and fully juiced and I also tried my mates battery and she still wouldn't fire so that takes it out of the equation. I will now try getting a new or second hand relay and see if that fixes the issue. Failing that a new starter motor.

So,
I picked up a 2nd hand starter relay, installed it, and got the same result.
I can only assume the problem must me the starter motor so I'll grab one of those today from the wrecker. Finger crossed people...
