Hi, My recently purchased 1989 Corolla hatch has a Silvertop fitted to it. Last night it developed a horrible miss. It starts and idles well, but when you go above about 2500 - 3000 revs (guessing) it starts to backfire and miss very badly. Back off the revs, and the car seems okay again. Checked this morning and still happening. I will not have a chance until tomorrow (earliest) to look at anything. Just hoping someone can point me in the right direction in which to start.

Thanks in anticipation. Alf.

Unlikely but ill say plugs, for approx $2 for a normal copper plug and see if that helps, make sure they are 1.1mm capped.

I'd check the plugs, look at the wires also, check the fuel filter to see if it is clogged. Did the other person do anything, like adjustable cam gears or anything? Just trying to think of everything that could cause that.

Best of luck to you. Please post here if you figure it out, cause i am debating the 20v swap.

Check the timing as well as VVT operation just to rule them out as a problem.
