[Hi Rolla]

Hey guy's,

I've recently purchased an AE82 with a 4AGE engine and I'm having a little trouble with it, I like to think that I know a bit about cars but what I don't know the ins and outs of these little rolla's as much as what you guy's would so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction in terms of finding common faults and issues with this engine.

The main thing is that it won't start. It did last week, but now it's taken a holiday.
I've replaced the distributor cap and rotor button because after seeing the state of the old one I thought that it would definitly fix it, but It hasn't. I'm yet to replace the fuel filter and coil.

I know it's a process of elimination and I have searched the forum for other issues people have had, it has given me a few ideas but I thought I'd check with you guy's to find out if the distributor, coil, fuel pump is common to fail.

Any help is appreciated.

First, I need to know sounds. You say no start, but does it crank, no crank, struggle to crank, intermittent crank. Have you checked the normal stuff (fuses, connectors and such).

If it cranks normally but does not start, check your key and tumbler. I see many people get stumped with a no start when everything seems normal, but the key is only giving power to the starter and none of the other systems. My brother works for Lexus, let me know if you need anything, I may be able to get it emailed. At worst I can hit up a friend at Toyota and fax things to you since I do not have a scanner.
