hi there , i recently swapped a 4AGE blacktop in my AE92 sedan with the optionnal RPM cluster and i dont know for you guys but my redline is around 8000 on my cluster wich is strange because a friend of mine has an AE101 levin with a blacktop swap ECU+engine and he cuts around 8800 rpm. we have 2 main ideas:

- i dont have a Levin/Trueno ECU so the redline is not the same since it can come from a more luxury / less sporty car like a Carina etc.

-my RPM guage is imprecise and really offset over 6500 rpm so it gives the impression that the redline is lower.

i already looked on the forum , maybe there is a thread with informations and i missed it, but still my Check Engine light is plugged and the only code i had is a VSS code wich is logic because i have a mechanical speed sensor but anyway , theres a link between my cluster purple/white wire and the Ecu and the error code is gone ...

no check engine codes , everything is fine , good power etc...

if you guys have any idea / solutions i would be really happy !

what could be the alternative ? fit in a custom cluster with autometer guages ? seriously i want to max ou the power of the blacktop and for that i need to rev it !

there was a factory fault on early blacktops, they have a rough casting in the head that doesn't let them rev.

easiest way to fix it is to pour sand into the intake, it takes the highs out of the castings and smoothes the exhaust ports on the way out.

well my problem is not mechanical , its electrical / ecu ... i feel that he can give more juice but the ecu cuts the engine at 8000 so i cant rev it ... i looked trough a couple of threads and i did what i tought would be the problem but still im cutting at 8000 ... if my fuel pump is not direcly wired to the ecu could the ecu cut the engine at 8000 as a safety mesure ? because i plugged my pump direcly to the ignition wire so it would pump faster with direct voltage ... im planning to plug a walbro and includ the pump electrical circuit so it can be managed by the ecu and install an aftermarket tach for more precision and ill give you guys news on that .

the auto ecus have a lower rev limit maybe you are running 1 of them also std rev cut is at 8200 rpm and make power to 8000

You dick.. you really think you can make a manual engine work with a auto computer?

actually its possible to run a manual engine with an auto ecu since only the transmission and a couple of parts change from manual to auto like the throttle actuator since it has to have a kickdown cable , the wiring is different but anyway its possible and is not such a bad idea for the simple reason that an auto ecu is running richer injection maps . you run richer but you rev lower , the choice is yours !

i am not running an auto ecu , its written M/T on the ecu , not the same pin-out, the wiring is a manual one ... so if my tach cuts at 8000 , in reality he might be cutting at 8200 , so that could only be an imprecision ...but how come my friend have a 8800 rpm redline in his AE101 LEVIN blacktop swapped ?

his tacho is most likely out most toyota 1s are not accurate same with after market 1s
you would need to check it on a dyno to see how it is
